WHAT IS CHM
Microsoft Compiled HTML Help is a proprietary format for online help files, developed by Microsoft and first released in 1997 as a successor to the Microsoft WinHelp format. It was first introduced with the release of Windows 98, and is still supported and distributed through Windows XP and Vista platforms.

WHAT IS PPT
PPT is the file extension that is associated with digital documents created in Microsoft® PowerPoint®. If you have or are given a file with this extension on it (for example, Presentation.ppt), it is likely the document was originally created in Microsoft® PowerPoint®.

WHAT IS DOC
In computing, DOC or doc (an abbreviation of 'document') is a file extension for word processing documents; most commonly for Microsoft Word. Historically, the extension was used for documentation in plain-text format, particularly of programs or computer hardware, on a wide range of operating systems. During the 1980s, WordPerfect used DOC as the extension of their proprietary format. Later, in the 1990s, Microsoft chose to use the DOC extension for their proprietary Microsoft Word word processing formats. The original uses for the extension have largely disappeared from the PC world.

WHAT IS RB
A Rocket e-book file. It is binary and not particularly portable; in fact it is geared primarily toward dedicated e-book hardware.

WHAT IS LIT
This indicates a Microsoft Reader e-book. It is currently only known to work with some (although not all) flavors of MS-Windows (including Windows CE), and is binary in nature.

WHAT IS PDB & PRC
Probably a Palm package of some type, either a Palm Database or a Palm Resource. In either case, it is basically a program made to run on the Palm platform, and will sometimes be a Palm DOC type of e-book. It is binary and not particularly portable, but applications exist to read Palm DOCs on a few other platforms.

WHAT IS E-BOOK
An e-book (for electronic book: also ebook: also ecobook) is the digital media equivalent of a conventional printed book. Such documents are usually read on personal computers, or on dedicated hardware devices known as e-book readers or e-book devices.
